Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the Assin South Member of Parliament and Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has accused President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of misleading Ghanaians over their promise to criminalise LGBTQ practices.
In a post on social media on Tuesday, March 31, Rev. Ntim Fordjour claimed that the party’s campaign in 2021 heavily relied on the pledge to introduce the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, which seeks to criminalise LGBTQ practices and promotion.
“After deceiving Ghanaians for their votes, today President Mahama and NDC shamelessly denounce the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, insisting LGBTQ bill is no longer their priority because the country is still grappling with basic needs,” he said.
The MP questioned the timing of the decision, asking whether the basic needs of Ghanaians were addressed during 2021–2024 when the NDC allegedly “weaponised LGBTQ propaganda” to secure votes.
He further asked, “Didn’t he promise to introduce government-sponsored bill to deal with LGBTQ? What changed? What a scam!”
Rev. Ntim Fordjour’s remarks suggest a growing frustration among some lawmakers and sections of the public who feel that campaign promises on the LGBTQ issue are being abandoned.
He accused the NDC of using the matter as a political tool rather than a legislative priority.
The Assin South lawmaker has called for clarity from the government on its stance, urging that the focus on national issues should not negate commitments made during the campaign, particularly on contentious social matters like the LGBTQ legislation.
