Nigerian music promoter and broadcaster Adesope Olajide has challenged Ghanaian musicians to prioritize promoting their music in Nigeria if they want to gain proper recognition internationally.
Speaking to Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Shopsydoo as he is popularly known stressed the importance of Ghanaian artists reaching out to other markets to gain more visibility.
According to him, Nigerians have identified Ghana as the next point of sale after they release and promote their music in their homeland and Ghanaians need to take a cue from that.
“A lot of Nigerians see Accra as the next biggest city in Africa to go and promote their song. So once you release a song in Lagos Nigeria, the next thing that comes to your mind is to travel to Accra to promote your songs.
When you drop your music in Ghana, see Lagos as your next city to promote your music and things will get better.”
Adesope mentioned a few important information that most Ghanaians do not even recognize.
He claims that Ghana happens to possess an accommodating atmosphere for Afrobeats.
According to him, that is the major reason many Nigerian musicians choose Ghana to promote their songs.
“Not only is Accra a major selling point for African music and Afrobeats but it also has the largest concentration of media platforms across its city.
We are starting to see the likes of King Promise, and Stonebwoy starts to travel. We need it to become almost natural. Once you release your music in Accra, and you promote it in Ghana, the next thing to do is take a flight to Lagos and promote your music there.”
His contribution comes on the heels of conversations held in Ghana over Ghanaian artists being snubbed in this year’s Grammy.
No Ghanaian was nominated and this became a worry for major industry persons who felt that the artists were not doing enough to attain higher heights globally.
On the other hand, the likes of Davido, Asake, Ayra Starr, and Burna Boy from Nigeria were nominated for this year’s Grammys.
