There are 18 days left until Ghana’s crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar on March 21 and 24, respectively.
Ghanaian players across the globe are making strides in preparation for these matches, while some may miss out due to fitness concerns.
Here’s a roundup of the Black Stars' performances over the weekend:
England
Antoine Semenyo was named Man of the Match for the second consecutive FA Cup game as Bournemouth defeated Wolves on penalties to reach the quarterfinals after a 1-1 draw following extra time. He was substituted in the first half of extra time.
Defender Tariq Lamptey received a second yellow card and was sent off, but Brighton still managed to secure a 2-1 win over Newcastle in extra time to advance to the FA Cup quarterfinals. The 24-year-old, who started his seventh consecutive game, is enjoying his most consistent run in over a year.
Spain
Center-back Abdul Mumin was forced off with an injury after 35 minutes in Rayo Vallecano’s 1-1 draw against Sevilla. The exact nature of his injury remains unclear, and it is uncertain whether he will recover in time for the March World Cup qualifiers.
Iñaki Williams’ Athletic Club missed the opportunity to strengthen their grip on fourth place after a 1-0 loss to second-place Atletico Madrid.
Joseph Aidoo, who joined Real Valladolid in search of more playing time, missed their 1-1 draw against Las Palmas and is expected to remain sidelined until late March.
France (Ligue 1)
Veteran André Ayew showcased his class by inspiring Le Havre to a thrilling 4-3 comeback win over Lens. He provided an assist and scored his fourth league goal of the season. The 35-year-old is now the joint-third highest-scoring Ghanaian in Europe’s top five leagues.
