Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed satisfaction with the peaceful atmosphere observed at the start of Ghana’s elections.
In an interview with the press at the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, he highlighted the importance of maintaining the peace throughout the process until results are declared.
“So far, we haven’t heard of any untoward behaviour from voters or others. We only pray that they maintain this peace,” he said on Saturday, December 7.

As part of the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) monitoring team, the former president and his colleagues are in the county to observe the electoral process to ensure that there are no crises in the election.
According to Mr Jonathan, they would be focusing on the Greater Accra region and touring the polling stations to observe the process.
He added that if there are issues, they will join the stakeholders to deal with it.
Mr Jonathan acknowledged concerns raised about the management of results from polling units to the national level but expressed optimism that Ghana’s history of disciplined electoral practices would prevail.
“I am hopeful that it will end well because this country is known for discipline,” he stated.
