The Deputy Chief Executive of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey (Abeiku Santana), has outlined the support Ghana provided to American streamer IShowSpeed during his recent visit to the country.
Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM, Abeiku Santana said that although the Ghana Tourism Authority had no hand in planning IShowSpeed’s itinerary, various government agencies offered assistance in several ways.
“What we rather did was to provide visa on arrival for him and his crew, we also helped them to get clearance on their equipment from Customs, and then we went to national security and IGP to offer their services to them,” he said.
He said that Speed had access to the Asenema Waterfalls through the help of the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie.
Gilbert added that IShowSpeed’s team was in constant touch with them even before his arrival in the country and fell on the Authority any time they needed assistance.
The Director of Diaspora Affairs, Kofi Okyere Darko, also told Myjoyonline.com that his office facilitated the acquisition of a helicopter to ease the streamer’s return trip from Akropong-Akuapem to Accra.
Abeiku, however, dismissed rumours that the Ghana Tourism Authority arranged the jollof rice that Speed scored and declared Nigeria the winner.
“GTA is not responsible for his plan so I don’t know who cooked the Jollof,” he said.
IShowSpeed, known for his high energy live streams and millions of followers across YouTube and other platforms, has become one of the most influential online creators among young audiences worldwide. His Ghana tour formed part of his wider travels across countries, where he showcases culture, food and tourist sites to a global digital audience.
During his time in Ghana, IShowSpeed visited Asenema Waterfalls and the palace at Akropong-Akuapem, where he was given a Ghanaian name, Barima Kofi Akuffo. He later went to Black Star Square in Accra for a supercar session and a jollof tasting session, among other activities.
He also toured the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, took part in boxing activities in Bukom, and concluded his tour with a visit to the Shea Butter Museum of entrepreneur Hammamat Montia in Accra, where he received a traditional farewell massage delivered by 10 maidens.
