Afrobeats singer Davido has revealed why he collaborated with his colleague, Omah Lay, disclosing that he worked with the Soso crooner because Omah Lay came out publicly about his doubts about Davido's love for him.
Recall that last year Omah Lay revealed that he had assumed that Davido “hated” him until the DMW boss spun his songs during his famous livestream with American streamer Kai Cenat in Lagos.
In a trending video broadcast, Davido explained that he reached out to Omah Lay after he saw his tweet. He added that their interactions led to their collaboration on ‘With You’.
“How Omah Lay and I got together was, Kai Cenat came to Nigeria, and I was driving him to the club, and then Omah Lay’s song came up, and he was like, ‘Who is this?’
“I responded, ‘Oh! This is Omah Lay, he is hot.’ And then the next day, Omah Lay tweeted like, ‘Wow! Davido gave me a shoutout on a livestream. I thought he hated me.’ And I Dmed him, ‘Why would you think I hate you? We’ve never met.’
“We eventually exchanged numbers, and we were going back and forth with music. We did about four songs, and he chose ‘With You’ as the one we would release,” he explained.
‘With You’ is one of the standout tracks of Davido’s fifth album, 5ive.
The song has been nominated for the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
