Ghana international Tariq Lamptey says he is confident the Black Stars can end their 41-year wait for a major title if they are able to get things right within the team.

Ghana is yet to win any laurel since beating Libya on penalties to win the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Tripoli.

What has followed after has been a series of heartbreak and poor performances with the Black Stars losing the three finals they have reached on the continental stage in 1992, 2010 and 2015. Even at a time when Ghana had one of the best squads on the continent, they were still unable to clinch any title.'

However, Tariq, who recently switched nationality to play for Ghana believes that wait could be coming to an end if everyone involved gets things right.

"Football is a very difficult game. It's hard [because] you are playing against top world-class players at the highest level. But we believe in ourselves. In football, you don't go into any game thinking you will lose," he told Joy Sports in an exclusive interview.

"We always have the feeling that you are going to win. You always have the feeling that if you work hard, prepare right, then you get the right result.

"So we don't really worry about the external factors. If we concentrate and do what is right for us, we are confident [we will end the drought]."

The Brighton and Hove Albion defender had previously stated his intention to play at the 2023 AFCON to be staged in Ivory Coast and hopefully help Ghana win the trophy.

He was in Ghana as part of his holidays following the end of the 2022/23 season where he was unable to finish the campaign due to an injury.
