Arsenal’s Thomas Partey could miss Ghana’s crucial 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa after picking up a groin injury.
The Black Stars are set to begin their camping on Monday, November 8, but Partey is unlikely to be involved as the technical staff awaits an update on the midfielder.
The English Premier League side confirmed the Ghanaian picked up a tight groin problem during Thursday’s training session, ruling him out of the weekend game against Watford at the Emirates.
"Thomas Partey is not on our squad today because he suffered a tight groin injury on Thursday at the training grounds," Mikel Arteta said before the game against the Hornets.
"We are yet to know the extent of the injury," he added.
Partey was named in the 28-man squad invited by Ghana coach, Milovan Rajevac for the final group games of the World Cup qualifiers.
However, questions are being asked about whether the Arsenal talisman could be involved in the must win games in the coming days.
Partey was vital for Ghana in the double-header against Zimbabwe last month, scoring in both fixtures to boost Ghana’s chances of catching up with South Africa.
The team is expected to start their preparations for the final two games today as they hope to be at the World Cup next year having missed out on the previous edition.
Ghana will play Ethiopia at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg on Thursday, November 11, before squaring off with Bafana Bafana three days later at the Cape Coast Stadium in the final group game.
