The Jamaican Ministry of Foreign Affairs has lauded the Ghanaian Engineering Reconstruction Team from the Ghana Armed Forces for their significant contribution to rebuilding homes in the Black River and Saint Elizabeth communities following Hurricane Melissa.
The 54-member team, drawn from the 14 Engineer Brigade, Engineer Contingent 1, was deployed to Jamaica in October 2025 to assist with national recovery and reconstruction efforts after the hurricane caused widespread devastation.
During a meeting with the team leader, Colonel Emmanuel Assiah, Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Camina Johnson Smith, commended the Ghanaian personnel for their dedication and the quality of work delivered.
Residents of Saint Elizabeth also expressed their appreciation to both the Ghanaian and Jamaican governments.
“We appreciate everything that you have done here. All the work done has been so nice, and I just want to thank you for helping us. I hope you all continue the good work,” they said.
The Ghanaian team continues to work closely with the Jamaican Defence Force and other international partners to restore homes and support the livelihoods of affected communities, reflecting Ghana’s commitment to humanitarian assistance abroad.
