Actor, content creator and creative entrepreneur Jeffrey Nortey has been honoured at the National ICT Week 2026 Recognition Awards for his influence and impact in Ghana's digital and entertainment space.

Jeffrey Nortey received the 'Recognition for Outstanding Influence and Impact in the Digital and Entertainment Space' award at the National ICT Week 2026 Recognition Awards and Dinner held in Accra on Friday, August 21.

The recognition came as part of a week that brought together stakeholders from government, industry, academia, media and the creative sector to examine Ghana's digital transformation and the opportunities emerging across the country's technology ecosystem.

The award recognised Jeffrey Nortey's growing use of digital platforms and technology to build a creative brand and connect with audiences. The organisers described his work as an exceptional use of technology to promote and elevate his craft within the creative industry, noting the contribution of his digital platforms to the growth and visibility of his work.

However, Jeffrey Nortey's involvement in the National ICT Week went beyond receiving an award.

Before the recognition dinner, he was selected as one of the creative voices to contribute to the programme's dialogue on day three, where he participated in a dedicated "Creators' Exchange" designed to test policy and institutional perspectives against the everyday realities of people building careers and businesses online.

The session brought Nortey and fellow creator Hilda Ama Braso into direct conversation with experts and institutional representatives on issues affecting Ghana's digital creative economy. The session objective was specifically to examine areas including account security, impersonation, privacy, intellectual property, online abuse, brand partnerships, AI generated content and platform accountability.

For Jeffrey Nortey, the discussion offered an opportunity to bring the creator's perspective into conversations that are often dominated by policy, technology and institutional language.

His contribution focused on the practical realities of building a public identity and commercial brand through social media. Among the issues highlighted were account hacking, impersonation and fake profiles, unauthorised reposting and commercial exploitation of skits, ownership of characters and creative concepts, cyberbullying, reputational attacks and harmful audience behaviour.

He also raised questions around the responsibilities of creators when using comedy and social commentary to address sensitive issues, as well as the potentially serious impact of platform suspensions and demonetisation on creators whose livelihoods depend heavily on digital platforms.

The format of the session allowed creators to put direct questions to representatives from institutions dealing with cybersecurity, telecommunications, law and digital regulation. Among the issues proposed for discussion were what immediate support is available when a creator's account is hacked or cloned, how creators can protect original characters, scripts and catchphrases, and what recourse exists when global platforms suspend or demonetise an account.

The discussion also placed particular attention on intellectual property and the growing challenge of protecting creative work in an increasingly digital environment. For creators such as Nortey, whose characters, scripts, catchphrases and skits form a significant part of their commercial identity, questions around ownership and unauthorised exploitation are increasingly tied to both creative and financial sustainability.

The broader programme reflected NITA's role in Ghana's digital ecosystem. NITA describes its mandate as creating an enabling environment for the effective deployment and use of ICT through sound policies and regulatory frameworks.

National ICT Week 2026 was held from August 17 to 20 at the Cedi Conference Centre, University of Ghana, Legon, under the theme ‘Innovation at Scale: Creating Opportunities Across Ghana's Digital Ecosystem.’ The programme provided a platform for conversations around Ghana's digital transformation, including technology, cybersecurity, digital finance and the broader opportunities created by innovation.

Jeffrey Nortey's presence at the event was therefore significant beyond the award itself. His participation reflected the increasingly important place of creators within Ghana's digital economy, where entertainment, technology, intellectual property, advertising and entrepreneurship increasingly intersect.

His recognition also comes at a period of growing expansion in his creative career. In June, Nortey staged the third edition of 3 Faces of Jeffrey Nortey at the National Theatre, combining film, theatre and live character performance in a sold-out production that further demonstrated how a digital character and online audience can be translated into a broader live entertainment experience.

From comedy skits and character creation to film, theatre, brand partnerships and now conversations around digital policy, Jeffrey Nortey's career illustrates the changing nature of the modern Ghanaian creative entrepreneur.

The National ICT Week honour consequently recognises more than his visibility online. It acknowledges the influence that creators can wield when digital platforms become tools for storytelling, enterprise and cultural expression.

As Ghana continues to build a more secure, innovative and inclusive digital ecosystem, voices such as Nortey's will remain important in ensuring that policy conversations reflect not only the technology being developed, but also the people whose livelihoods and identities increasingly depend on it.
