Constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Kusaug Traditional Area have threatened to suspend grassroots campaign activities, citing growing insecurity and a sense of betrayal over the government’s handling of the Bawku conflict.

At a press briefing on July 15, the executives from Binduri, Bawku Central, Pusiga, Tempane, Zebilla, and Garu said they feared for their lives amid the escalating violence, and warned that the worsening security situation had eroded trust between the party and the Kusaug people.

“Our lives are in serious danger, not just from the crossfire of violence, but from the growing anger of our own people, who now see us as enablers of a system that has betrayed them completely,” the group said.

The executives expressed regret that their efforts to promote peace and justice in Bawku were not being matched by meaningful action from the government.

“We refuse to continue risking our lives and integrity in the name of a government that appears to have no respect for our people or for the promises we made on their behalf,” they declared.

While affirming their loyalty to the NDC and its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, the executives urged the party leadership to act swiftly to address the crisis.

“During the December 7th election, the Kusaug people voted not just for hope and progress, but for survival. Their trust must not be taken for granted,” they warned.

The executives said the current state of affairs has placed them in an impossible position, torn between party loyalty and the safety of their communities.

Their announcement signals potential political fallout in the Kusaug Traditional Area, a region historically supportive of the NDC but now grappling with what local leaders describe as neglect and unfulfilled promises.
