The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate, John Mahama, has condemned what he describes as the neglect of communities by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led government for petty partisan political reasons.
In a post on his Facebook page, he questioned why the government is seemingly punishing communities for voting for the NDC in 2020.
Mr Mahama had earlier raised the concern during his tour of the Central Region after the Chief of Ekumfi Srafa said his community has not had a kilometer of asphalted road in the last eight years.
President Akufo-Addo some months ago during a meeting with chiefs from Ekumfi said he took his eyes off the area because they rejected the NPP’s parliamentary candidate in the 2020 elections.
However, Mr Mahama expressed his deep disappointment in the leadership approach taken by President Akufo-Addo, accusing him of sidelining various communities due to political differences.
“After touring fourteen (14) constituencies in the Central Region so far, I cannot help but join the chiefs and people in condemning the neglect of our communities for petty partisan political reasons, as President Akufo-Addo himself has stated.
“It pains me to see our cherished communities grappling with the neglect of crucial development projects vital for their growth and well-being.”
“The words uttered by the chiefs in Ekumfi, Brakwa, and Ajumako Besease on Saturday echoed the frustrations of many—young people, families and households—who deserve better infrastructure, healthcare, education, and opportunities for sustainable livelihoods,” he lamented in his Facebook post.
He questioned the reasoning behind this neglect, asserting that governance should be inclusive and cater to the needs of all citizens, irrespective of their political affiliations.
“This is not just a political issue but a matter of justice and accountability. Every citizen, regardless of their political allegiance, deserves to have their voices heard and their needs addressed,” he added.
“As I have done before when I was president and will lead this country to achieve again, development shall be a right for all, not a privilege for a few. The NDC administration of John Mahama and Naana Jane will ensure the progress of our communities and meet your needs, and I promise that no community will be left behind.”
