The Minority caucus in parliament has accused President John Mahama of using the 2025 State of the Nation Address (SONA) as a platform for propaganda rather than addressing the real challenges facing Ghanaians.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, March 3, former Minister for Finance Dr Mohammed Amin Adam criticised the President for what he described as an attempt to shift blame and mislead the public.
Dr Amin Adam stated that instead of outlining practical solutions to Ghana’s economic crisis, Mahama chose to engage in political rhetoric.
“Rather than providing clear strategies to fix the economy, the President spent a significant portion of his address engaging in propaganda and blaming others for his administration’s shortcomings,” he said.
He added that the address failed to inspire confidence in the Ghanaian people, who are already struggling with economic hardships.
The former Finance Minister further argued that Mahama’s speech was an attempt to rewrite history and absolve his administration of responsibility for the country’s economic difficulties.
“We all remember how his past leadership led to the collapse of businesses, high unemployment, and excessive borrowing. Now, instead of taking responsibility, he is trying to create a narrative that shifts the blame elsewhere,” Dr Amin Adam asserted.
The Minority caucus warned that such an approach would do little to solve the pressing issues facing the nation.
They called on the government to focus on real economic recovery rather than engaging in political point-scoring.
“Ghanaians need action, not words. The President must stop the propaganda and start delivering on his promises,” Dr Amin Adam concluded.
