The Chairperson of the Integrated Social Development Centre (ISODEC), Esther Offei-Aboagye, says that the incoming president, John Mahama, must focus mainly on leaving behind a solid legacy.
According to her, Mr Mahama possesses all the qualities necessary to lead the nation, and he should aim to leave a legacy and not fail to meet the expectations of the many Ghanaians who voted for him.
“I believe President Mahama, the incoming president, has a unique opportunity to leave a legacy because he has nothing to lose. He has the freedom to make a definitive difference in several areas. There are major lessons to be learned in managing expectations, as he is coming into office with enormous public expectations and a lot of goodwill,” she said.
She advised that he should focus on coordinating and managing the communication efforts of those he will entrust with key positions in his administration.
Mrs Offei-Aboagye was speaking on JoyNews' Newsfile on Saturday with Samson Lardy.
Mr Mahama made a historic return to the presidency in the December 2024 elections, securing a margin of over one million votes against the NPP.
Many have attributed his victory to the failure of the outgoing Nana Akufo-Addo administration to meet the demands and expectations of the Ghanaian people.
In a speech during a December 31st night church service in Tamale, Mr Mahama acknowledged the challenging times ahead, saying he was aware of the needs of the Ghanaian people, which contributed to his massive support in the elections.
He has called on religious bodies to support him with fasting and prayers to help him navigate the difficulties of managing the country in the coming four years.
He is scheduled to be inaugurated as the ninth president of the Fourth Republic of Ghana on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, to begin his duties.
