Former President John Mahama has submitted a petition to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, urging an investigation into the unauthorised use of his letterhead and credentials by certain members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a letter dated October 4, the former president's legal representatives, Praetorium Solicitors, highlighted that this incident occurred on October 2.
They have requested a comprehensive investigation into the matter, emphasizing that such actions are unlawful, and are seeking the prosecution of those individuals involved.

“on or about October 2, 2023, several copies of a document bearing our Client’s seal and style, and with the following particulars were found on several social media platforms. Particulars: Title: “Memo: Support for the Occupy the BoG Demonstration” Date: October 2, 2023, Signatory: Joyce Below Mogtari,” an excerpt of the letter said.
The letter further stated, "The said document was not authored or issued by our client. Based on the above and other related facts, we have advised our client in respect of the criminal laws and his rights thereunder; whereupon he has instructed us to, on his behalf, petition you to cause criminal investigations into the unauthorized use or forgery of his office's credentials."

Special aide to Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, who shared a copy of the petition on social media also condemned it stating it is inimical to Ghana’s democracy.
Disinformation is inimical to our democracy. Our laws protect us and our democracy from disinformation.

"Disinformation is inimical to our democracy. Our laws protect us and our democracy from disinformation. About 2 months ago, the hard-working members of our team found that some individuals were spreading false information on a forged letterhead of the office of HE John Mahama.
"We made a formal complaint to the Ghana Police Service to bring the persons to book. We hope that the police will enforce the law and help protect our democracy."
