Presidential Staffer Nana Yaa Akyenpim Jantuah says she will petition the Speaker of Parliament if the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, fails to retract his disrespectful comments directed at her.

She said the comment was inappropriate and unacceptable, particularly because it was made publicly during the NPP’s presentation of its petition at the Jubilee House after its 'Democracy Under Attack' demonstration.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen on Thursday, August 6, Nana Yaa Jantuah questioned why Mr Afenyo-Markin would make such remarks about her while she was representing President John Mahama.

“I’m going to petition the Speaker of Parliament if Afenyo-Markin does not retract… How can you tell me in front of everybody that I am a nobody?”

She argued that the Minority Leader should have respected the authority of the President, who assigned her to receive the petition on behalf of the presidency.

“He didn’t ask a security man. He didn’t ask a cleaner. The President nominated someone to come and receive your petition.”

Nana Yaa Jantuah also defended her professional background, insisting that Mr Afenyo-Markin had no basis to diminish her contributions.

“You don’t even know me. I give you a lot of respect when I see you, but you don’t want to give respect.”

She said she remained silent at the time because she was representing the President and could not allow personal emotions to influence her conduct.

“I didn’t open my mouth because I was standing there in the stead of the President of the Republic of Ghana.”

She added that public officials should maintain respect in political engagements, particularly when interacting with women.
