The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo, says the government has not allocated a budget for the nationwide cleanup exercise, revealing that the operation is being supported largely through donations and contributions from private organisations, volunteers and development partners.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse Show, on July 9, Ms Ocloo said the exercise is being driven by collective support rather than direct government funding, with several organisations providing logistics, equipment and refreshments to facilitate the operation.

According to her, waste management companies, including Zoomlion, have donated equipment, while non-governmental organisations and private firms have also supplied logistics to support the exercise.

She added that some institutions have provided water and breakfast for volunteers, while district assemblies are coordinating additional support to ensure participants are catered for during the cleanup.

“There hasn’t been any budget allocated for this exercise as I speak.

We are relying on support from volunteers, corporate organisations and development partners who have provided logistics and other resources to ensure the exercise succeeds,” the Minister said.

She described the overwhelming support as a demonstration of shared responsibility in tackling sanitation challenges, expressing confidence that the collaborative effort would contribute to reducing flood risks and improving environmental cleanliness across the Greater Accra Region.
