A coalition of political parties led by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has formally lodged a petition with the judiciary, calling on authorities to urge President John Dramani Mahama to revoke the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
Presenting the petition, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo‑Markin appealed to Judicial Service staff to unite with the coalition in safeguarding justice and impartiality within the courts.
He cautioned senior judicial figures against complacency, even if the suspension does not directly affect them.
“For the Judiciary to rise, don’t be comfortable because it is Torkornoo. Don’t be comfortable because you have your own grievances; you also have a party interest because the attack is benefiting you,” Afenyo‑Markin warned.
“No, be with that attitude of 'touch one, touch all'. Rather, pray that a fair system is created for all to benefit.”
Responding on behalf of the Judicial Service, Acting Judicial Service Secretary Dr Cyracus Badinye Bapuuroh thanked the delegation for their engagement and confirmed that the petition would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities for due consideration.
