The New Patriotic Party's Director of Elections, Evans Nimako, says while the party’s election committee does not have the power to issue sanctions against members who violated the party’s electoral rules at the just ended super delegates' conference, it will not hesitate to refer such persons to the national executive council for sanctions to be applied.
However, this will only happen after both sides of the feuding factions have been listened to and all concerns addressed.
He was speaking concerning the pockets of incidents that occurred over the weekend during the super delegates’ conference which the election committee says were in “violation of the provisions outlined in Article 3(5)(A) of the party’s constitution and a potential misconduct under Article 4(7).”
Speaking on JoyFM’s Top Story, Evans Nimako said, “The committee will not hesitate to refer issues raised within our mandate to the party for consideration. We don’t have the powers to sanction; we are a product of the national council of the party.
“Our recommendation will go to the national council, and whatever action the national council would want to take on the report, the committee is open. We’re saying that since we’re a product of the council of the party, our recommendation will go to the council.
“And then the council will have the authority, if you look into the constitution, to then take the next action.”
He noted that above all else, an amicable solution will be the goal to foster party unity.
“After the committee has gotten the opportunity to listen to both sides of the story, we will make our recommendation to the national council of the party. I’ve already mentioned that this is a family affair, it’s an NPP internal election, and where people have expressed concern, we will continue to engage and make appropriate recommendations to the party’s national council,” he said.
