A 19-year-old man has died and four others sustained injuries in a fatal accident that occurred around 12:48 p.m. on the Cape Coast–Takoradi–Accra highway.
The crash, which took place near the West Gate of the University of Cape Coast, involved a Donfeng tipper truck, a Nissan Sentra saloon car, a Honda CR-V 4x4, and an Apsonic motor tricycle.
According to a police report issued by the Cape Coast Police Command, the tipper truck, with registration number GN 5710-19, was transporting sand from Bronyibima when it veered off the road and collided with the stationary vehicles.
The impact caused significant damage, particularly to the Nissan Sentra (registration number CR 1756-12), the Honda CR-V (registration number CR 319-20), and the unidentified Apsonic motor tricycle.
The deceased, identified as Wilfred Awusi Ninson, was rushed to the University of Cape Coast Hospital along with the other victims but was later pronounced dead. His body has been deposited at the hospital's morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Police confirmed that the injured victims and the drivers involved are receiving treatment and are in stable condition.
The tipper truck driver, 29-year-old Bright Essel, is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
