Parliament will today resume amidst the growing tension surrounding the deliberation on the controversial E-levy Bill.
On Friday, government presented an amended rate of the levy reducing it from 1.75 per cent to 1.5 per cent.
However, the Finance Ministry’s effort to win over the Minority hit another snag.
Thus, with the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, travelling for another medical review this week, it is uncertain how events will turn out today.
Ahead of the sitting, the Deputy Minority Leader, James Klutse Avedzi, has urged the majority caucus to wait till the return of the speaker before tabling the E-levy bill.
According to him, doing so will help prevent the chaos and confusion that took place in the House before it went on Christmas break.
“If the Speaker travelled this weekend, then he will not be available. Our advice to the majority side is that we should wait until the speaker comes back.
"When the speaker presides then we will vote on the matter. Once that is done, the end decision will be a decision of the house,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament says it will push for a no E-levy debate in the absence of the Speaker.
