The Ghana Police Service has handed over a bag containing GH¢85,000 to its rightful owner after it was found on the Techiman–Kumasi Highway in the Bono East Region.
In a statement isssued on Tuesday, February 17, the Bono East Regional Police Command said the bag was discovered in the early hours of Friday, February 14, 2026, at about 4:20 a.m by officers on duty at a police snap checkpoint near Techiman.
According to the police, officers noticed a bag lying by the roadside, which they suspected had fallen off a moving vehicle. The bag had the name “Ofori” and a phone number written on it.
The officers on duty, led by Inspector George Appiah and three others, retrieved the bag and later discovered it contained a large sum of money.
They subsequently handed it over to the Regional Police Command for further investigation.
Police said the contact number on the bag was called, and a 53-year-old businessman, Stephen Ofori, from Ashtown in Kumasi, responded and later reported to the checkpoint to claim ownership.

Mr Ofori told police that the money was being transported from GCB Bank, Wa, to Kumasi in a commercial vehicle when it got missing.
“The amount was verified in the presence of the owner and confirmed to be GH¢85,000,” the police said, adding that after satisfactory explanations and further checks, the cash was released to him.
The Police Service commended the officers involved as well as community members who drew attention to the found bag, describing the act as a clear demonstration of honesty, professionalism and public trust.
