The Member of Parliament (MP) Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has encouraged delegates participating in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries to support the reelection bids of seasoned lawmakers.
Madam Ursula emphasised that a substantial resignation of experienced MPs from both political spectrums could present significant challenges for the subsequent parliamentary administration.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based UTV, she underscored the vital role played by seasoned MPs in guiding and mentoring new legislators entering the political arena.
Highlighting the importance of knowledge transfer, the MP for Ablekuma West stressed that the wisdom imparted by veteran parliamentarians is pivotal for the efficient functioning of the legislative body.
“Next Parliament will suffer. The majority of the MPs bowing out are very experienced.”
“So we, the experienced ones who have decided to continue the race, I’ll urge the delegates to consider that and retain us," she said.
Referring to her personal experiences, the Communications Minister pointed to OB Amoah as an illustration of the valuable contributions seasoned MPs make to the growth of their peers.
She specifically highlighted how OB Amoah offered guidance and served as a mentor during her initial days in office.
Acknowledging the demanding nature of parliamentary responsibilities, Ursula emphasised the significance of placing a priority on educating new MPs.
This, she believes, is crucial for enabling their active and effective participation in legislative processes.
