The training programme, set to begin on October 7, 2024, and run until November 22, 2024, will involve participants from nine African countries who will be trained on strengthening the electricity transmission and distribution network, promoting the introduction of renewable energy, and promoting energy efficiency.

Speaking at the launch of this phase of the training programme, Oda Ryotaro, the JICA Ghana Office Senior Representive said that "the aim of the training programme is to improve the skills of technicians in maintenance of electrical equipment" while Engineers will be trained in "distribution planning, design, system protection and control".
Mr. Ryotaro shared JICA's plan to construct a new substation in Tamale, Ghana, in 2025 as well as similar projects they have undertaken in Tanzania, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Kenya.
On his part, the ECG Director for the Training School, Ing. Godfred Mensah appreciated JICA for the sponsorship.
He spoke on emerging technology and opportunities in artificial intelligence.
He challenged the participants to "not only master fundamentals of electrical engineering and power systems but also to explore how these emerging technology can be applied in your local contexts".
