Wamkele Mene, the Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), has paid a courtesy call on former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to express his sincere appreciation to him for the support extended to the AfCFTA Secretariat during his tenure as Vice President.
They discussed the importance of AfCFTA towards improving continental trade, economic growth and transformation as well as digital trade protocol, especially cross-border digital payments.
“His Excellency, I am here today to express my sincere gratitude for the support you extended to the AfCFTA Secretariat during your tenure as the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana,” Mr Mene stated.
He also seized the opportunity to commend Dr Bawumia for his remarkable concession in the 2024 general election.
“Ghana’s democratic credentials were further strengthened when you conceded defeat less than 24 hours after the presidential elections.
“You have, indeed, shown that you love your country and its people,” he said.
The General-Secretary of AfCFTA also encouraged Dr Bawumia not to rest on his oars and continue giving off his best to enable Ghana to move forward.
