Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has assured that the newly drafted Sports fund bill will help resolve longstanding funding challenges across all sporting disciplines in Ghana.
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday at the Ministry’s office, where details of Ghana’s budget for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers were outlined, the Minister stressed government’s commitment to ensuring the fund becomes operational.
According to him, President John Dramani Mahama, together with the ministry, is determined to see the initiative “finally see the light of day.”
“Cabinet has approved and so we are working on the bill. The process is ongoing, and by the time Parliament returns, the Sports Fund Bill will be ready to be submitted,” he stated.
He further expressed confidence that the bill will receive broad bipartisan support, noting that sports remains an important issue for all Members of Parliament.
“Once you have campaigns, sports is part of your campaign activities. So if we have a fund that can take care of sport generally, funding challenges will be reduced to the barest minimum.
This way, lesser-known or less-financed sports can also get the kind of attention they deserve. I believe strongly that this is the way forward,” he added.
