The Minister for Trade, Industry and Agribusiness, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has called on government appointees and public officials to exercise prudence and accountability in the management of public resources.
She emphasised that the judicious use of state funds is essential to advancing development and ensuring that government expenditure translates into tangible benefits for citizens.
Speaking during a hearing of the Local Government Committee of Parliament, Madam Ofosu-Adjare underscored that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government views accountability as a cornerstone of its governance philosophy.
She noted that the President’s vision of transparent and people-centred governance can only be realised when every public official upholds the highest standards of financial discipline and responsibility.
The Minister further urged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to ensure the equitable distribution of development projects across their jurisdictions, stressing that fairness and inclusivity remain key indicators of good governance.
In their submissions before the committee, some MMDCEs raised concerns about incomplete contract documentation and funds owed to their assemblies from previous administrations.
They lamented that certain monies meant for developmental activities were still lodged in accounts, hampering the execution of vital projects.
Madam Ofosu-Adjare reiterated her ministry’s commitment to supporting local authorities in strengthening fiscal discipline, promoting efficiency, and deepening accountability in the use of public resources — all in line with the government’s broader agenda for transparent and responsible governance.
