Pupils of the University of Health and Allied Sciences Basic School have extended a helping hand to the inmates of Madamfo Ghana Children’s Shelter in the Volta Regional capital of Ho.
The pupils presented assorted products like toiletries, food crops, toys and clothing they purchased with their savings.
The gesture was to put smiles on the faces of the over 45 children housed at the orphanage during the festive period.
The Headmaster of UHAS Basic School, Seth Kongah, indicated that the initiative was part of their curriculum to imbibe the qualities of leaders in the pupils, as they are being trained to lead in the future.
He added that management would consider extending teaching services to the orphanage to help provide basic education to the inmates.
He hinted the initiative would become an annual ritual where the pupils would extend kind gestures in the form of donations and support to the underprivileged.
A basic five pupil, Joel Arthur Asmah, said they were only practicing what they were taught in Religious and Moral Education (RME), where all the 3 main religions in Ghana preach giving to the less privileged in society.
He also detailed that the school’s motto, “Learning today and leading tomorrow” teaches them that one of the qualities of a leader is to share and not rely on the society.
The Deputy Director of the Madamfo Ghana Children’s Shelter, Alex Kpetsigo Komla, lauded the gesture by the UHAS Basic School pupils ahead of Christmas.
“All these items presented, it will go a long way to bless the children because the children need it a lot. It has come at the right time, so we are blessed to have the items”, he said.
The Madamfo Ghana Children’s Shelter houses child slaves rescued from the Volta Lake, victims of abuse, orphans and abandoned children.
