Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is scheduled to visit the Ministry of Transport on Friday, January 16, to discuss persistent challenges in the public transport sector, with a particular focus on the Greater Accra Region.
The visit comes as commuters continue to face long delays, inflated fares, and a scarcity of commercial vehicles during peak hours.
Morning and evening rush periods have been especially affected, forcing some residents to seek alternative means of transport, including boarding cargo trucks to reach their destinations.
During the engagement, the Vice President is expected to review current measures being implemented by the ministry and consider proposed interventions aimed at addressing the shortage of vehicles and easing commuter hardships.
The visit is part of broader government efforts to stabilise public transport and improve urban mobility across Accra.
In parallel, the Ministry of Transport plans to hold discussions with the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and other transport associations to develop long-term solutions.
Scenes across major corridors, including the Achimota Old Road and Kwame Nkrumah Circle, have highlighted the urgency of these interventions, with many commuters left waiting for extended periods due to the acute shortage of buses.
