The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is taking credit for identifying anomalies in the ballot papers for the Ahafo and Volta regions.

The NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, Rashid Tanko-Computer, said the party prompted the Electoral Commission (EC) to take corrective action.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on November 16, he revealed that the issue the NDC detected was about the serial numbers and the quality of ballot papers being printed in the two regions, noting that it could have led to rejected ballots.

“We raised this issue about three weeks ago about the anomalies we found in the printing of ballots for Volta and Ahafo regions at the front start. We raised the issue at IPAC and we told the Electoral Commission that they need to take action on it… We raised the complaint and copiously indicated it to the Electoral Commission,” he said.

According to Mr Tanko-Computer, EC assured the party that steps would be taken to address the problem.

Mr. Tanko-Computer attributed the discovery of the anomalies to the NDC’s agents positioned at the printing centers, who promptly alerted the party leadership.

Meanwhile, the EC says it is to reprint all ballot papers for the Volta and Ahafo regions due to incorrect serial numbers.

Following the EC’s announcement of its decision to reprint all affected ballots, Mr. Tanko-Computer welcomed the move.

However, replying to the issue on the same platform, te Deputy Chairman of the EC, Dr. Bossman Asare, refuted NDC‘s claims.

According to him, the errors were identified by the Commission’s own internal auditors, who insisted that the opposition party cannot take credit for the discovery.

“We got the information from our own internal auditors who went around, along with our security personnel. The Electoral Commission acted based on feedback from our offices on the ground. We didn’t receive any formal or informal complaints from the NDC.

"It was the EC's decision after the printing house assured us they could provide all the serial numbers correctly, but our team informed us there were still gaps. To ensure ballot integrity, we decided to assign the Volta Region to two of our distinguished printers. So, if Dr. Tanko believes the NDC alerted us before we acted, there is no evidence to support that,” he stated.
