The Director of Elections and Research for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Evans Nimako, has urged the angry NPP supporters and prospective aspirants to desist from going to court to file suits on the election of polling station executives.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Top Story on Tuesday, he advised that they resort to an internal resolution mechanism to address their grievances.
“This morning, our lawyers had to deal with the issue on Ablekuma West because some have gone to court. We will plead with members, they should desist from such actions.” he pleaded.
His comments come after two members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) filed an injunction against the ongoing polling station executives and electoral area coordinators’ election in the New Juaben North Constituency.
The complainants, Levina Agyapong of Asokore and Bright Oppong of Effiduase have sued the Eastern Regional Chairman of the NPP; Kingston Kissi and the New Juaben North Constituency Secretary, Asante Antwi.
They are praying for an order from the court to cancel the whole electioneering process since it has been marred by irregularities.
They are also seeking an order of the court directing the defendants who are in charge of the nomination forms for the polling station and electoral area coordinators election to make the documents available for all eligible members.
The plaintiffs also want the court to direct that the Regional and National Executives should take charge of the sale of the form and a declaration that no prospective aspirant shall be denied access to the purchase of the application forms by the committee.
According to Mr. Nimako, although the party is not afraid of going to court over the issues, he believes it would be in the interest of the NPP prospective aspirants to have them resolved internally.
Meanwhile, some members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Fomena Constituency have staged a demonstration against the party’s leadership.
The youth are questioning the rationale behind the exemption of the constituency in the party’s election for polling station executives.
They have also threatened to cross-carpet and campaign for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to win power come 2024.
The angry members were seen changing the colours of the NPP at the constituency office to that of the opposition party.
