Supreme Court Judge nominee, Justice Senyo Dzamefe, has pledged to prioritise the adoption and expansion of virtual court proceedings if approved to serve on the nation’s apex court.
According to him, leveraging digital tools in judicial processes is essential to enhancing efficiency and curbing prolonged delays in court hearings.
Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, June 16, Justice Dzamefe emphasised that the judicial system must adapt to evolving technological trends to maintain relevance and uphold timely justice delivery.
"We also need to go virtual courts, so that you do not necessarily have to go to the court before you give evidence, such that when you are not there, it has to be postponed or travel all the way (from your destination to appear in court) and so with the virtual court, you can still give evidence wherever you are and the case goes on," he said.
He underscored that the virtual court system is a key solution to addressing the perennial challenge of adjournments and undue delays that often hinder the progress of cases in the legal system.
"We must go with technology. We need the tools, technological tools now, the time of long-hand writing is past," he argued.
He is among seven people the president has nominated to the apex court.
