Heart of Lions continued their strong push in the Ghana Premier League title race with a hard-fought 2-1 home victory over Samartex on Saturday in Round 30 of the season.
The match, played at the Kpando Stadium on May 4, saw the hosts dominate the first half with early goals from Yaw Danso and Nana Oppong.
Danso opened the scoring in the 19th minute, finishing off a sharp attacking move before Oppong doubled the lead just three minutes later.
The visitors struggled to contain Heart of Lions’ energetic start and were limited to sporadic threats in the opening 45 minutes.
Samartex attempted to regroup after the interval and found a lifeline in the 60th minute when Baba Musa converted from the penalty spot, making it 2-1.
Despite late pressure and multiple substitutions from both sides aimed at shifting momentum, Heart of Lions managed to hold firm and protect their lead.
The result lifts them to third on the league table with 53 points from 30 matches, just one point behind leaders Nations FC.
Samartex, meanwhile, remain seventh with 45 points and face mounting pressure to stay in the top half of the standings.
