The Second Lady, Samira Bawumia has assured women in the country that the governing New Patriotic Party would not forget about them.
She said the government has rolled out several pro-poor policies and programmes intended to make their lives better.
“I am a mother and I know how it is everyday thinking about your children and your home and your family. Unfortunately, some of us are not as privileged as others. It is incumbent on those of us who have been blessed to remember others.
“Our mothers, we will never forget you, government is doing what it can to support, as you know we have our LEAP beneficiaries, we have increased, we have also increased the grants for persons with disabilities,” she said.
Mrs Bawumia gave the assurance at an end of year party organized for widows, persons with disabilities and the aged in Wa.

Over 400 widows, persons with disabilities and women who have attained sixty-years or beyond for the first time benefitted from the end of year party organized by the Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Project.
Each of the participants went home with a hamper. Some of the items contained in the hamper included a piece of cloth, a bag of local rice, oil, chocolate, biscuits and an unspecified amount of money.
The Second Lady said every year, the Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Project (SEHP) which is a not for profit-making organization that organizes parties for hardworking, industrious women across the country and she was therefore pleased to hold the event in Upper West region.

“We are doing a lot of social intervention which are all geared towards poverty alleviation. You talk about Free SHS and that is also part of alleviation and because education is the surest way to get out of poverty,” she added.
She called on Ghanaians to continue to pray for the leadership of the country to have the wisdom and empathy to serve this country the way it should be served.
Upper West regional minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih commended the second lady and her SEHP for the initiative.
Earlier, Hajia Samira Bawumia made whistle-stop visits to the overlord of the Waala Kingdom, Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, the newly coronated Upper West regional chief Imam, Imam, Alhaj Osuma Mahama Kanihi and the Fulani community in the Upper West region.
