The Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu has said the re-introduced allowances for nursing trainees is sustainable.
Shrugging off any concerns, the Minister told JoyNews’ PM Express programme on Wednesday that “the money involved is not too much.”
He said, “if the economy continues to go the way it is going and our fiscal tables continue to improve I don’t see why we cannot do this.”
The Akufo-Addo-led administration re-introduced the allowances after it was cancelled by the erstwhile government.
The argument by the Mahama government was that the money would be used in increasing facilities and enrollment.
The former President argued enrolling the trainees unto a student loan is much more practical than burdening the taxpayer to pay the trainees.
At the moment, the trainees are paid quarterly, with all arrears coming at once.
