The Minority Spokesperson on Mines and Energy is asking the Vice President to apologise to Ghanaians over his recent comments comparing the Covid-19 pandemic to the management of the dumsor.
Adams Mutawakilu says Dr Mahamudu Bawumia's claim that former President John Mahama did not manage the power crisis as properly as President Akufo-Addo is managing the Covid-19 pandemic is inaccurate and smack off hypocrisy.
“I want to refer to 2016, March; Dr Bawumia did indicate that Ghanaians should not thank president Mahama for curbing dumsor because that is his responsibility to make sure he ends dumsor.
“And I am surprised four years down the lane, the same Bawumia is telling Ghanaians that President Mahama couldn’t manage dumsor,” he said.
The Damongo MP said as Muslims have begun their fast in this month of Ramadan, it is expected of all Muslims including the Vice President to speak the truth.
“Because fasting is not only limited to the stomach but what you say, what you hear and what you see,” he said.
Against the Vice President’s claim that the Akufo-Addo-led administration had performed better in the Energy sector as compared to the Mahama-led administration, Mutawakilu stated that too was false.
Mutawakilu said the Mahama administration was able to increase power generation for the country, raise money to settle the energy sector debts and was able to secure the largest investment in the country’s oil industry in Sub Sahara Africa.
“I want Vice President Bawumia to tell us one intervention he and his boss, President Nana Akufo-Addo had done in the energy sector to take credit,” he demanded.
He said even despite these interventions, the country is still suffering from dumsor, “Not because we don’t have generation but just because we cannot buy fuel to power the plant and you come and tell us that President Mahama couldn’t manage dumsor.”
“He should go and sleep over it, rethink and look at the month in which we are as Muslims and come to apologise to the people of Ghana for lying to them,” he added.
