The Central African Republic's former president, François Bozizé, who was ousted by rebels in 2013, is to stand again in December's election.
His bid was announced on Saturday and is seen as high-risk given the country's lingering civil unrest, but it is not unexpected.
Mr Bozizé, 73, first took power in CAR following a coup in 2003, winning two subsequent elections that were widely seen as fraudulent.
Current President Faustin Touadéra is expected to stand for re-election at the polls though his candidacy has not been officially announced.
