The Gender and Social Protection Minister says she hasn’t received complaints of food poisoning in some junior high schools (JHS) in the Volta Region.
Cynthia Mamle Morrison said her Ministry is yet to receive reports about the incident that took place in Ho in the Volta Region when the free hot meal began across the country.
Twenty-one students from the Holy Spirit Basic JHS, Royal Praise, New Seed International and Volta Rising Star JHS, were diagnosed of food poisoning at the Ho Municipal hospital after consuming plain rice and bean stew in school.
But responding to the issue Wednesday when she took her turn at the 'Meet The Press' series at the Information Ministry, the Agona West MP said she had no knowledge of the incident.
“We don’t cook for secondary schools, it's Ghana Education Service that cooks for secondary schools. We cook for JHS and in my report, there is nothing like food poison anywhere. Even in secondary schools, I hear its rumours," she said.
Regarding the issues of poor quality of food, she indicated that monitoring mechanisms have been put in place to check and caterers found culpable will be sacked
“I cannot stand here and say everything is a 100% but we have the monitory system which will monitor them and if you know that your food is not up to the standard we change your contract.
"What we've also done this time is we have given student and teachers a complain form. At the end of everyday, they record the amount of quality of food, quantity of food, the time the food got to the school and the condition in which the food got to the school".
"Those reports guide us to change schools for the caterers or otherwise allow them to cook," Cynthia Morrison said.
She also added, "It is not everything on social media that is very true. But I believe that we have a few challenges that we are working at".
Responding to attacks on women branded as witches, the Minister said her Ministry will create safe havens that will ensure a comfortable life for elderly women who are uncomfortable being integrated into their communities.
"We are working with civil society and NGOs to make sure that we have given them a save heavens and then set up a task force who will go and do community dialogue".
