Davido drops new album, ‘A Better Time’

Nigerian Afropop superstar Davido has released another album just one year after ‘A Good Time’.

Witfully named ‘A Better Time’, the 17-track set - his third studio album – sees him call on some of the biggest names in music.

Davido reunites with American talents Chris Brown and Young Thug on ‘Shopping Spree’, and cops rapper Nicki Minaj on Holy Ground, legendary rapper Nas on the Hitboy produced ‘Birthday Cake’ in addition to the previously released ‘Go Crazy’ featuring Lil Baby.

The project, exclusively produced by himself and his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, also finds the 27-year-old star showcasing African talents like Ghanaian vocalist Muegeez of R2bees, Nigerians Tiwa Savage, Bella Shmurda, Mayorkun and CKay, Sauti Sol from Kenya and South African music sensation, Sho Madjozi.

Davido had earlier this year released the album's lead single, 'Fem', which means 'quiet' in Nigerian slang languuage.

According to the multiple award winning artiste, the album was recorded after his tour was cancelled over Covid-19.

“I got back in the studio, and funny enough, I was making better music than I had previously dropped, and we just kept going,” he said in an interview with Rolling Stone.

“My sophomore album was called A Good Time, so, obviously, A Better Time, it’s a better album. I took my time. Better visuals, better production, everything as a whole package”.

Davido dedicates this one to the people of Nigeria even as they battle their government for better treatment with #EndSars.

“One thing about Africans—rich or poor, happy or sad, is that no matter what the situation going on in your country, you always find a reason to smile and just be happy,” he said. “We [African people] always like to celebrate and A Better Time is that outlet to be free, be happy and hopeful for a better future.”
