The NPP in the North East Region has accused the NDC parliamentary candidate, Ibrahim Rauf Tanko of unleashing attacks on its supporters.
In a statement signed by the Regional Secretary, Sulley Sambian, he indicated that Rauf Tanko who was on a campaign tour in the Yagaba/Kubori constituency was embarrassed with the number of people who failed to come out to listen to him.
According to him, this triggered the series of attacks leaving some of their supporters injured.
“The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the North East Region has learnt with shock the barbaric attacks on innocent NPP supporters in the Yagaba/Kubori constituency by thugs of the NDC parliamentary candidate, Ibrahim Rauf Tanko.”
His statement comes on the back of a clash between some supporters of the two major parties at Yagaba in the North East Region on Sunday.
The General Secretary also revealed that Mr Tanko and his boys attacked the only FM station in Yagaba and destroyed it.
He said, they also went to the residence of the NPP candidate and destroyed an NPP party pickup and other vehicles belonging to the NPP parliamentary candidate.
He added that people who were at the residence of the NPP candidate had to scale the fence wall to escape to safety. Those who could not escape were beaten severely.
Expressing his disappointment, Mr Sambian stated that It is quite disturbing that an MP, “would stoop so low to encourage party supporters to unleash violence of this magnitude and scale on his political opponents.”
The Regional Chairman and the leadership of the NPP in the North East Region who condemned the acts also called on the North East Regional police commander and the Mamprugu Moagduri police commander to act swiftly to bring the reckless hoodlums to book.
He further beseech all NPP supporters in the Yagaba/Kubori constituency to remain calm whiles security services are ensuring to protect lives and property before, during and after the December 7 elections.
He said the clash between the two major political parties should serve as a wake-up call to security personnel in the upcoming polls.
“This should also serve as a wake-up call to the security services to ensure that armed police and military officers are deployed to all polling stations in the Yagaba/Kubori constituency on December 7, 2020.”
