Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central has opined that the Electoral Commission (EC) performed abysmally in the just-ended general elections.
Mahama Ayariga said the EC which is an institution responsible for ensuring that elections are conducted free and fair, failed in delivering its mandate.
“The conclusion I have is that they did not do their job well, if they did their job we won’t be having these discussions."
"As we speak there are issues in Sene West, what is so complicated about Sene west a small constituency that up to now we cannot have clarity?” he quizzed.
His comment comes after some religious leaders called on politicians to resolve their differences in a peaceful manner.
Founder and Apostle General of Royal House Chapel International, Rev. Sam Korankye Ankrah, urged President Akufo-Addo to call former President John Mahama for the sake of peace.
The renowned man of God said though the norm has been that a person who lost calls to congratulate the winner, President Akufo-Addo must set the pace by reaching out to the former President for peace to prevail in Ghana.
In the same vein, the General Overseer of the Perez Chapel International, Bishop Charles Agyin-Asare also urged the former President, John Mahama to choose peace over chaos as he contests the results of the just-ended elections.
However, speaking on Joy FM's Super Morning Show Monday, the former Sports Minister said, these calls should be made to the Electoral Commission.
Mr Ayariga further indicated that there were various constituencies where the NDC alleged that results were not collated, however, the EC proceeded to make declarations.
“Given how far we have come in our democracy to begin to imagine that an institution like EC, would make such fundamental flawed things, It is very appalling,” he said.
