Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have attacked officers at the Manhyia Police Station in the Ashanti Region demanding the release of one of their members.
This development ensued during a demonstration in Kumasi against the declaration of Nana Akufo-Addo as President-elect in the just-ended polls.
Police say the group acted on false information as the incident happened before police arrested one of the members at the finish point of the protest.
Divisional Crime Officer at Manhyia Police Station told JoyNews that "we explained to them that nobody has been arrested. The demonstrators will not agree.
"They were claiming that one of the demonstrators had been arrested here which was not correct. It was completely false. So they were coming to demand that person’s release," said DSP Charles Appiah.
According to him, "they threw stones and some of the police were hurt. A vehicle was also damaged."
He, however, did not state how many of them sustained wounds adding that "finally we were able to take control and they moved away."
Earlier today, it took police water tanks to douse the burning of car tires in protest against what supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party supporters call a rigged election.
Others have expressed their displeasure at the election’s outcome with some even protesting at the headquarters of the Electoral Commission (EC) in Accra.
NDC Presidential Candidate, John Mahama has described the EC's verdict as fictionalised to favour the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
