Over 350 people have been rendered homeless and the roof of 15 houses ripped off at Debibi in the Tain District of the Bono Region following a heavy downpour.
The downpour, accompanied by strong winds and thunder, left in its wake massive destruction of both public and private properties, including Roman Catholic (RC) Basic School and Debibi International School.
The situation has forced the displaced persons to seek temporal shelter with relatives and neighbors in the farming community.

According to the Tain District NADMO Coordinator, Andrews Oppong, the devastating rainstorm lasted for well over two hours and two people got injured.
He said the affected schools got their teaching and learning materials displaced whilst the community people lost properties worth ¢40,000.

Mr Oppong added “the disaster will badly affect the JHS three students of the Debibi International School, since their entire classroom collapsed in the rainstorm”.
He said although some of the affected persons are being accommodated by friends and family, the inconveniences are just too glaring therefore they will need urgent assistance to get back to their homes because of the extensive nature of damage on their houses.

“I have forwarded our initial findings to the Bono Regional NADMO Director but we will still appeal to benevolent individuals to help these displaced people with more relief items so that they can also resume normal life,” Mr Oppong stressed.
The disaster victims have also appealed to the government, donor agencies, Tain District Assembly as well as philanthropists, to come to their aid to enable them to rehabilitate their houses.
