Hearts of Oak climbed to the top of the league for the first time this season after a narrow victory against Eleven Wonders at Techiman.
A first half goal from Kwadwo Obeng Jnr was enough to secure all three points for Samuel Boadu’s men.
The striker benefited from a defensive mishap as he pounced onto a loose header by Tetteh Nortey to poke the ball past the Wonders goalkeeper.
Obeng Jnr took his tally this season to seven goals with five of them being the opening goals in games.
The Techiman-based side thought they should have had a penalty when a goal bound effort hit Robert Sowah on the arm.
The referee played on but Eleven Wonders coach, Ignatius Fosu-Osei approached the linesman to show him a replay from the Startimes footage on a phone.
Both sides pressed on for goals but Hearts were content with the result and held on for the crucial three points.
The win is the Phobians’ fourth in a row and their good form takes them to the summit of the league having played one game more.
It’s the first time in five years that Hearts have been on top of the Ghana Premier League table.
Boadu’s players return to play Liberty Professionals in the round of 64 stage of the MTN FA Cup next week.
