A non-governmental organization, Carenet Ghana has commenced a dormitory project for the Hohoe Evangelical Presbyterian Senior High School in the Volta Region.
The project when completed is expected to ease the accommodation burden on the school compelling students to be crowded in the female dorms.
The Chief Executive Officer of Carenet Ghana, Patrick Kojo Ahumah explained the organization acted on the request of the Parent-Teacher Association Chairman in 2018, to help resolve the infrastructure deficit.
He detailed that at the time, accommodating the increasing number of students was a great challenge for the school and hostel facilities in Hohoe.
“Some girls were sleeping on corridors and some classrooms were converted into dorms,” he said.
Realizing the dire need for accommodation facilities, Mr. Ahumah said his organization decided to seek funding to construct a dormitory facility for the females.
Unfortunately, Carenet Ghana was not able to secure funds until 2021, when AEXCID decided to fund the project through the instrumentality of the SED.
Construction works commenced on the project in October 2021. Mr. Ahumah hopes to hand it over after a year.
“The initial capacity was supposed to be 350, but the plan on the ground can accommodate over 500 girls,” he said.

He lauded the support of the school authorities and appealed that the facility be well maintained to ensure it stands the test of time, when completed.
“Students must be the first to take this upon themselves and take care of the facility,” he stressed.
An ultra-modern sanitary facility is also being constructed.
Carenet Ghana, founded in 1996 is operational in 5 regions of Ghana, though based in the Volta Region.
It has over the years implemented projects in the health and educational sectors. It is also vested in governance and youth development.
