National 100m record holder Benjamin Azamati and his coach Elorm Amenakpor in collaboration with Legon Creative Athletics Club are organizing a scouting exercise dubbed “Junior Olympics” to help unearth budding talents.
The exercise will take place between 17th and 18th December 2021 at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and technology.
The 2 day event will see competition across various categories – The Under 10’s will participate 60m dash, Under 13’s will run 100m and 200m events. The U 17’s will compete in 100m, 200m and try their skills in longs jump and the u20’s will take part in the 100m, 200m, 400m and Long Jump.
The seniors will compete in 100m, 200m, 400m and the feature 4x400m mix relay.
Coach Elorm Amenakpor is the Technical Director of Legon Creative Athletics Club and explains to joy sports how important this exercise is.
“Just like Azamati was discovered, I am hopeful that the young ones will take advantage of the opportunity and who knows, we could have the next big star.
"We at Legon Creative Athletics Club are keen on the mentoring process, not just discovering them but guiding them through the process, We are very excited about this event, he said”.
Benjamin Azamati who broke the national 100m record by running 9.97s will grace the event, alongside fellow Olympian Ansah Sarfo, Africa 400m Bronze medalist Grace Obour , GUSA 200m champion Edwin Gadayi , UDS sprinter Barnabas Aggir and UG 100m specialist Rashid Samini.
