The spokesperson for Vice President Bawumia has rubbished claims that his boss has suddenly gone silent on pertinent national issues, particularly those bordering on the economy.
According to him, such claims are politically motivated.
Speaking on the Super Morning Show on Thursday, April 7, Dr Gideon Boako contended that the Vice President, since January, has made not less than twenty public speeches, stressing that such claims cannot be true.
“It’s quite surprising when people say the Vice President has been quiet. That cannot be a true statement. Vice President Bawumia has been one of the most outspoken, vociferous Vice Presidents ever produced in this country.
"Every time he gets the opportunity, he makes his views clear. So I don’t see [the point] when people say he is being quiet; it’s neither here nor there. These are [just] political jabs,” he said.
Dr Boako’s comments follow various calls on the Vice President, who has been projected by the ruling government as the country’s economic messiah, to react to the concerns and plights of Ghanaians.
Prominent personalities, including former President John Dramani Mahama and MP for Ningo Prampram, Sam George, have called out the Vice President over his purported silence.
While Mr Nartey George is particularly concerned about the Vice President’s silence over government’s proposed E-Levy, the former President has been seeking the whereabouts of the Vice President amidst the increasing cost of living and worrying state of the country’s economy.
According to him, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) used false promises to convince Ghanaians to vote them into power.
However, since assuming power, the party has failed to deliver on its mandate despite the lofty promises ahead of the 2016 general elections.
Reacting to such claims, he said, "there is no definite pattern, arrangement or order as to when the Vice President should hold a Public Lecture. The date, timing, and the platform is determined by the circumstances," thus the Vice President will address the public when necessary.
Meanwhile, Dr Bawumia is expected to speak on the country's economic state later today.
Following the continuous price hikes on fuel and commodities and the cedi's depreciation, there have been calls for Dr Bawumia as the leader of the Economic Management Team to address the issues publicly.
The National TESCON Training and Orientation Conference is being organised by the National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in collaboration with Danquah Institute dubbed “Bawumia Speaks on Economy” at 1 pm.
Personalities, including the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, are scheduled to grace the economic forum at the Pentecost Conference Centre at Millennium City, Kasoa Yesukrom, in the Central Region.
Other speakers who will be present include Chief of Staff, Frema Akosua Osei Opare; National Chairman of the NPP, Freddie Blay; Executive Director, Danquah Institute, Antoinette Tseboa-Darko, among others.
