The National Democratic Congress Youth Organiser elect has revealed that he donated his ex gratia after serving as a Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) to the party.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Tuesday, Mr George Opare Addo said he shared GHC1000 each to NDC constituencies in the year 2017.
“When I received my ex gratia as MCE, I gave everything out to the NDC, I did not take it home,” he said.
This, according to him, is because by the time he received his ex gratia, the NDC had started reorganising the party.
Mr Opare Addo explained that his act of benevolence contributed to being retained as the National Youth Organiser for the party.
Mr. Opare Addo retained his position after a keenly contested election in Cape Coast on Saturday.
Pablo, as he is affectionately called, beat his sole contender, Yaw Brogya Genfi by obtaining 533 votes.
Brogya Genfi, who was the Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser, failed to annex the portfolio, after amassing a total of 508 votes of the valid votes cast.
Pablo’s win marks his second successive victory over Brogya Genfi, after beating him in the 2018 contest.
In a related development, Mr Opare Addo has expressed his surprise over the winning margin.
According to him, he expected a landslide victory in the just-ended NDC election.
“To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised about the gap because I was expecting a landslide, but on election day, a lot of machination happened,” he said.
According to him, the close margin was a result of the delegates being pressured on the day of voting, adding that his campaign leads were also suppressed.
“A lot of surrogates were sent out by the big wigs to come and do.. people were being frightened with calls so they brought pressure on the delegates,” he explained.
He noted that his opponents were also propagating lies about the source of funding for his campaign, with some claiming that the New Patriotic Party funded it.
