The Black Meteors of Ghana of Ghana were held to a 1-1 draw against the Pharaohs of Egypt in a friendly game ahead of the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Morocco.
The Black Meteors are in Egypt where they continue their preparations towards the start of the tournament and faced the Pharaohs in a test on Thursday afternoon.
Daniel Afriyie Barnie opened the scoring for the Black Meteors inside 10 minutes as he scored from the penalty spot. The team's captain stepped up to take the spot kick after Abdul Fatwu Issahaku was brought down in the box.
The Black Meteors looked to be in control of the game after taking the lead but were unable to penetrate the box of the Egyptians.
On the other hand, the home team also found spaces in the half of the Ghanaians and forced them into coming mistakes which saw them get a penalty.
However, Ibrahim Danlad was on hand to keep the score at 1-0 and protect the Meteors' lead.
The Asante Kotoko shot-stopper was at fault in the 39th minute for the Egyptians' equaliser as he overhit a pass to a teammate which was intercepted by the opposition.
Ghana suffered another setback moments later with Ghana being reduced to 10 men for what was a reckless challenge.
Zubairu Ibrahim was shown a straight red card and looked to be disappointed with his tackle but that also summed up the performance of Ibrahim Tanko's side with the game ending 1-1 after the opening 45 minutes.
Both teams did very little to unsettle each other in the second half of the game but it was Egypt who saw more of the ball and created opportunities.
They were, however, unable to make their advantage count when they reached the final third of the pitch.
Danlad made an 88th-minute save to deny Egypt from snatching a late winner.
The game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes with no winner produced.
Both teams are expected to participate in the U-23 AFCON later this month with Ghana in Group A while Egypt find themselves in Group B.
