President Nana Akufo-Addo has fulfilled his promise of GH¢1 million to support Medeama Sporting Club’s CAF Champions League campaign.
Following their qualification to the tournament, Akufo-Addo pledged to the Tarkwa-based side in August on their visit to the Presidency.
Medeama have started their campaign on the continental stage with one win from three group games so far. They have also lost one and drawn the other.
Medeama received the promised cash amount on Thursday, December 14, with the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, presenting it to the club.
Member of Parliament for Tarkwa and Nsuaem, George Mireku Duker, received the money on behalf of the club.
Ussif shared a post on social media saying “I had the privilege of presenting a GH¢1 million from H. E. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to the MP for Takwa Nsuem, George Mireku Duker on behalf of Medeama Sporting Club, as a fulfilment of his pledge to them for winning the 2022/23 league and also qualifying for the CAF Champions League.
“Together, we champion the spirit of sportsmanship and national pride. Best of luck to Medeama SC and I wish them well in their campaign in Africa.”
Medeama currently sit third in Group D of the CAF Champions League with four points from a possible nine.
